Social Care (Local Sufficiency) and Identification of Carers Bill

Long title

A Bill to make provision about the duties of local authorities in relation to the sufficiency of provision of social care and related support; to make provision about the duties of health bodies in England in relation to the identification and support of carers; to make provision in relation to the responsibilities of local authorities, schools and higher and further education organisations for the needs of young carers and their families; and for connected purposes.

Summary

<p>The Bill has two key areas: </p><ul><li>to place a sufficiency duty on local authorities to ensure that there are enough social care services to support carers and disabled people, in particular to aid them to enter or remain in the labour market, or undertake work-related education or training; </li><li>to help ensure the early identification of carers by schools, and further and higher education institutions.Health bodies would have to ensure that effective procedures to identify carers and potential carers were in place, and ensure that carers received appropriate information and advice, and relevant medical services.</li></ul>
