Who we are

TrustPolitics (the “Site”) is operated by Digital Platforms Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17087275). For data-protection purposes we are the controller of any personal data we process in connection with the Site.

What this policy covers

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use TrustPolitics, what we do with it, and your rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. It does not cover third-party websites we link to.

About the data shown on our pages

The information shown on MP, Lord, constituency, petition, bill, debate and vote pages is public recordsourced directly from UK Parliament, IPSA, the Electoral Commission and other official bodies. It is not personal data we collect about our readers — it is publicly published information about elected representatives and parliamentary proceedings.

Some of the parliamentary information we republish — including names, constituencies, voting records, registered financial interests and contributions to debates — constitutes personal data of public officials under UK GDPR. The Open Parliament Licence expressly does not cover personal data, so the licence alone is not our legal basis for processing it. We rely on the following separate UK GDPR / DPA 2018 bases:

  • Article 6(1)(f) — legitimate interests: public accountability and transparency about elected representatives is a recognised legitimate interest of the public, and the information is already in the public domain.
  • Article 85 UK GDPR & DPA 2018 Schedule 2 Part 5 (special purposes — journalism): we process this information for journalistic and democratic-accountability purposes, with a view to publication in the public interest.
  • Article 9(2)(e) / DPA 2018 Schedule 1 paragraph 6 — manifestly made public by the data subject: for any special-category data (e.g. political opinions inferred from voting records or party affiliation), that information has been put into the public domain by the data subject themselves through their parliamentary activity.

If you are an MP, Lord or other public official featured on this site and believe specific information about you is being processed unlawfully, please contact us and we will review the request promptly.

What we collect from you

We keep data collection deliberately minimal. Specifically:

  • Analytics (Google Analytics 4). We use GA4 to understand which pages are read and which search terms bring people here. GA4 uses cookies and collects a truncated IP address, referrer and basic device information. No first or last name is collected.
  • Server logs. Our host logs IP address, user agent and URL requested for security and abuse-prevention purposes. Logs are retained for up to 14 days and then rotated.
  • Contact form submissions. If you use our contact form we store your name, email address and message so we can reply. These messages are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted.
  • Advertising.We display ads via our advertising partner. They may set its own cookies — see their privacy policy for details.

Cookies

We use the following cookie categories:

  • Strictly necessary— required for the site to work (session, CSRF protection). These cannot be turned off.
  • Analytics— Google Analytics 4. Helps us understand which pages are useful.
  • Advertising— set by Google AdSense and any participating ad networks. Used to serve non-personalised ads on the Site.

You can block non-essential cookies via your browser settings at any time.

Legal basis

We rely on legitimate interests (running and improving the Site, keeping it secure, funding it with non-personalised advertising) and consent (where required, for example analytics cookies in jurisdictions that mandate opt-in).

Who we share data with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only with:

  • Our infrastructure providers (hosting, CDN, database) — strictly for operating the Site.
  • Google (for Google Analytics and AdSense advertising).
  • Law-enforcement or other authorities if we are legally required to do so.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Ask us to delete personal data that we no longer need.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of the page shows when it last changed. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage.
