The Office for Digital Identities and Attributes, which sits within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology—DSIT—has already created a framework of standards and governance to support the widespread use of trusted digital verification services. Such services provide an efficient and secure way to verify age for both in-person and online sales, which also addresses the important points raised by the noble Lord, Lord Young. We will continue to work closely with DSIT to understand how its work can enable the best use of digital identities to support retailers that are selling tobacco, vapes and nicotine products, and to ensure that this is reflected in the regulations.
