Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) BillContribution
Improving access to information is key to addressing and reducing fraud and error. We in the DWP have seen how access to data, such as earnings information from HMRC, has helped to reduce overpayments. In fact, in the case of universal credit, it has virtually eradicated earnings-related overpayments for people on PAYE, because we can automatically check their data with HMRC. This legislation can help to achieve a similar outcome for other types of overpayments, such as in the case of those who have too much capital or are, for example, living abroad.
