Further, the capacity of the IOPC to take on a wider remit is in doubt. An independent review of the IOPC in 2023 found it was facing significant and growing financial pressures, leading to an increasing number of complaints resulting in fewer investigations being carried out. The review had notice of this proposed extension of the IOPC’s oversight to DWP and PSFA officers, and in response it expressly cautioned that:
