The Government’s plans to increase the capacity of our airports will result in unavoidable environmental damage, and falling short of our mandated SAF targets will only result in more pollution over our airspace. Following the Government’s invitation to Heathrow to submit a proposal for a third runway in January, I asked the company for a percentage projection of the flights that will run on first, second and third generation SAF by 2035. Alarmingly, that question could not be answered. Last month, I asked the same question again, but a response has not been forthcoming. It is unacceptable that Heathrow can propose a £49 billion project but not have the figures to substantiate its environmental mitigations.
