Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill

Contribution

Amendment 502F, in the name of the noble Lord, Lord Banner, would place a statutory duty on public authorities to have due regard to the desirability of exercising functions under this Act consistent with the requirements under the UNCRC. Further to the points that I have made already about the Government’s commitment both to children’s rights and the UNCRC, there is a wealth of legislation that ensures compliance with the convention, and within our report to the UN every five years we rightly review the extent to which existing legislation implements the UNCRC. Should this reporting process highlight a need for further legislation to fulfil our obligations, we would of course review this.
