Children’s Wellbeing and Schools BillContribution
On Amendment 483A, spoken to by the noble Baroness, Lady Barran, on behalf of the noble Lord, Lord Lucas, we recognise the importance of level 7 apprenticeships and the impact that this may have for older learners and professions—I think he was specifically interested in architecture. I have personal experience, as we got to a point where every legal business in Leeds was offering apprenticeships. It was remarkable talking to businesses about their experience of apprentices going in from school and how far advanced they were in comparison, I have to say, with the graduates going in later. I think we have some real opportunities to talk about how we need to celebrate this and, as I said before, try to undermine the perception of the second-class status of apprenticeships. That is absolutely fundamental. We have the evidence we need to get across.
