On an anecdotal note, I have the great privilege of having a large family and my children have shown me the contents of WhatsApp groups that all parents are involved in. Every class has a WhatsApp group. There are several more WhatsApp groups for different interest areas. Looking at the content of some of the comments on those WhatsApp groups is very concerning indeed. And it is instant; the comments go out the night before and parents are in the playground the next morning. It is a very difficult space for teachers, but enlightened schools that are moving forward have a very good system in place for engaging with children, supporting them, having nurturing groups and all those things that are so important to try to prevent situations developing to the extremes that we know they can do.
