A national strategy for PE and sport in schools is not just desirable, it is imperative. Such a strategy would provide high-quality physical education and sport, equitable access, sustainable provision, professional development, inclusive practices and collaborative networks. In its formulation, it would allow us to look to countries such as Australia and Canada that have implemented national strategies that have yielded positive outcomes for their children. These models demonstrate that a co-ordinated, long-term approach can lead to significant improvements in sport and physical education.
