Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill

Contribution

Of course, this is not a coincidence. Sport England has highlighted the severely negative impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on children’s activity levels and their attitudes to sports. Children who were in year 4 and below when the pandemic struck are the most disadvantaged. This age group remains less likely to have positive attitudes towards activity and they retain a lower sense of opportunity. In fact, as many noble Lords have mentioned, only 44% of children are doing an average of at least 60 minutes of physical exercise per day—the minimum level, as recommended by the Chief Medical Officer.
