It does not stop there. We are also seeing a decline in children’s will to persevere. Since the 2018 academic year, the largest drops in individual development—in those who keep calm and carry on when they find something challenging—are seen in those in school years 5 to 6 and 7 to 8, down almost 7% compared with six years ago when older children were that age.
