Children’s Wellbeing and Schools BillContribution
There is something unspeakably humbling about watching a bereaved parent trying to save the life of other parents’ children. There is something deeply upsetting about a roll-call of Ministers who promise “never again” but fail to act. On 7 June 2023 I raised it with the then Minister Michelle Donelan; on 17 July 2023 I raised it with Minister Claire Coutinho; on 23 November 2023 I raised it with Minister David Johnston; on 10 February this year I raised it with Minister Stephen Morgan; and over the same period I raised the issue with a similar roll-call of officials from both DSIT and DfE—and before the Recess I raised it with the Minister, who is in her place. We have multiple pieces of guidance on filtering and monitoring, including the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance and gen AI guidance, but it is not working.
