Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill

The amendments in my name should be seen in the context of the prevalence of connected devices—ones that are literally designed to distract us. We know that distraction is bad for academic performance. It is bad for social and emotional functioning and bad for cognitive control. As the highly respected Daisy Christodoulou writes in her book Teachers vs Tech?, which I cannot recommend highly enough to your Lordships if they interested in this area, there could be a world where devices are redesigned for educational use which removes distractions, but we are not in that world today and until then we need these amendments.
