Furthermore, since 2024, subject to certain exceptions, biodiversity net gain has been mandatory for new planning permissions to achieve at least 10% net gain in biodiversity value. There are many examples of developers, particularly larger developers, responding positively to this requirement where they have designed their site layouts to deliver more habitat on site in order to attract more wildlife. On Report in the other place, we announced that we will be consulting on changes which require swift bricks to be incorporated into new buildings. We have published updated planning practice guidance setting out how these features are expected to be used and signposting to further information, such as the British industry standard.
