If it is not there in the register—or even if it is—these days there will be mutterings on social media. Nothing will be secret. Indeed, lots of things that may not be true will be claimed on social media anyway. This amendment offers real protection for the Secretary of State. If claims are made from anonymous social media accounts about what is happening behind the scenes and what has been suggested, a formal register would be the truth that something can be tested against. That would be a real protection for politicians as well.
