Planning and Infrastructure Bill

Contribution

Given that the Bill allows for the local authority to describe the amount of affordable housing, as well as other kinds of housing, which we will go on to debate in other groups, it is essential that all planning authorities have an obligation to meet the Government’s desire to build more social housing. This is why we all heartily support Amendment 141 from the noble Lord, Lord Best, which makes it very clear that affordable housing should be mainly for social rent rather than shared ownership or so-called affordable rent.
