Planning and Infrastructure BillContribution
When ordinary families, young people and key workers hear that a new development will provide so-called affordable homes, they dare to hope. But time and again they discover that what is being delivered is far beyond their reach. We know that affordable is defined as 80% of market value; but in areas where the market has overheated—a significant part of the country—80% of far too much is still too much. It does not matter whether you are a teacher in Watford, a nurse in Leeds or a carer in Cornwall: these homes are not affordable to you.
