Planning and Infrastructure BillContribution
Amendment 185SD also provides for a new clause where development plans need to align with the updated National Planning Policy Framework commitment to take action to reduce health inequalities, a point that we have already debated, not least with the Front Bench of the Liberal Democrat Party. It is vital that we take action to reduce those health inequalities by ensuring that new residential development plans include adequate provision for sport and physical activity facilities to meet the needs of the new residents—and ensuring that appropriate consideration is afforded to the need for increased sport and physical activity provision for increased residential developments—by easing weighting for commitments within the NPPF to ensure that they are commensurate with other considerations within the planning system. There should be a presumption of approval for new developments related to sport and physical activity provision. This new clause would ensure that appropriate prominence is afforded to communities within the NPPF to ensure a reduction in health inequality through the provision of physical activity.
