Speaking in the House of Lords on 3 September 2025

Debate

Employment Rights Bill

Contribution

I put on record my thanks to all the officials and public servants who have provided such dedicated support throughout, including not only those in my department and the Whips’ Office but right across government and the public sector. In particular, I thank my private office and the Bill and policy teams. Noble Lords who have met them will be as impressed as I am with their professionalism and knowledge. Finally, I acknowledge the often quiet, yet essential, work of the House staff. This includes the clerks, the doorkeepers, dining staff, police, cleaners and countless others. This House has often sat late into the night to consider this Bill, which is possible only because of these workers and employees feeding us, advising us, keeping us safe and cleaning up after us. I am sure that they will have watched the debate with interest, and I hope that they will find their reward for their hard work in the renewed workplace rights that they will benefit from in due course.
