As the noble Lord, Lord Jackson, has said, we have been dealing with the small boat problem since 2018, and we are in excess of a 180,000 people now. Over a prolonged period, government and Parliament have presided over a reckless endangerment of our stability as a nation. We cannot be the repository for every unfortunate individual on the surface of the earth, but with the way we are currently legislated for and treaty-bound, that is where we are.
