Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill

Contribution

As well as tabling my Amendment 199, I have put my name to Amendment 199ZA, in the name of my noble friend Lady Sater. Amendment 199 is obviously a narrower version of Amendment 199ZA, in that it excludes from the three-item cap any items of PE kit that are needed if a child is representing the school in a sports competition, while Amendment 199ZA would exclude all PE kit. I am not sure how the Government expect competitions to work without branded items, if only for the benefit of the referee and spectators. I know that some schools hand out sports kit for matches that belongs to the school, but that is not how the clause is phrased and, currently, rather like the point regarding the CCF, even if children are given these items, it would not comply with the proposed legislation.
