Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill

Contribution

The truth is, of course, that parents doing home education can get things wrong. But the state can also get things wrong. In the many groups and amendments that we will discuss, we need to ensure that we are not comparing the real world-version of home education, where much is done very well but some is not, to a fantasy version of state education where everything works perfectly well. We need to ensure that we do not take the view that ideas imparted at home are always damaging but those at school are always self-evidently valuable. We need to make sure that we are realistic about the state and do not think it acts only with pure motives and never harasses, punishes or acts badly.
