Amendment 439 suggests that the panel should give notice to a range of people, including all the next of kin, the GP and any specialist doctor involved in the provision of services. I am also not in favour of that. It is important that it is possible for the panel to sit in public, so that people can see how it is done but, if the patient wants privacy, he should have it. This is not like a court; it is a process that the public should understand. They should be able to see how it works normally but, if the patient wants it to be in private, it should be kept fully private.
