Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) BillContribution
There are different models available. We should at least consider, if we are going to do something, what is the best model—the standard VAD, in which the primary focus is relief from suffering; the Swiss model, which is about personal autonomy; the German model, which is about self-determination; VSED, which is about patient autonomy; palliative sedation, which is symptom relief; or a strict regulatory model, which is about safeguards, judicial approval and doctors. What we are being presented with in this Bill is slightly haphazard and decentralised, and I do not think it will give the public what they think they are going to get.
