Investigatory Powers (Communications Data) (Relevant Public Authorities and Designated Senior Officers) Regulations 2025Contribution
I have probably covered all the issues raised by noble Lords in the Committee. The noble Lord, Lord Davies of Gower, discussed the resourcing of the Investigatory Powers Commissioner and his office. Under Section 238(2) of the Act, the Home Secretary is required to consult the IPC regarding funding to ensure that the independent officer is able to carry out their vital oversight functions. As I mentioned in response to my noble friend Lord Jones and the noble Lord, Lord Harper, only £13.06 million of the £15.74 million budget set was spent in the last financial year for which we have records. Self-evidently, there is some headroom.
