I remember remarks being made on an earlier group by the noble Lord, Lord Empey, who said that moving outside the bubble of this Chamber we have to work out how people on the ground will perceive the existence of assisted dying, particularly if it is located in the health service. There is a fear that the perception out there will be that someone going to their doctor might be steered in the direction of an assisted death—or will they be receiving care? Because in our society there is word of mouth, that is a real danger for health provision. Having that distinction is important.
