Speaking in the House of Lords on 13 March 2026

Debate

Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill

Contribution

The noble Baroness will know that Clause 5 specifically says that if a registered medical practitioner raises the question of assisted death, he “must explain to and discuss with that person … all appropriate palliative, hospice or other care” that is available. It says: “Accordingly, such a preliminary discussion may not be conducted in isolation” of, among other things, palliative care. I am not sure of the basis on which the noble Baroness is saying that that should come before rather than at the same time.
