Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill

Contribution

Current school phone policies remain insufficient. Although about 90% of schools have a policy in place, it is clear from research by Policy Exchange and Parentkind that only between 11% and 14% of them maintain full-day bans, the approach that research shows is most effective. Like cigarette filters in the 1950s, the technology industry safety features and parental controls offer only partial solutions to a systemic problem. The impacts disproportionately affect disadvantaged children, for whom schools may represent the only environment that is free from digital distraction.
