Children’s Wellbeing and Schools BillContribution
The reason why the amendment was tabled is that it is a bit of a shame to spend so much time and effort talking about trying to improve our school system without thinking about the raw material that is going into schools. So much of the good work that we are trying to develop and encourage in those schools needs to be rethought if the young people arriving there are, through absolutely no fault of their own, incontinent, incapable of normal linguistic communication or not potty-trained, or have attention deficit disorder. Many of those partly result from, as we were discussing in the earlier group, the negative effects of screen time on very young children. Unless we do something systematically and quickly to start attacking that, we will unwittingly undo many of the good things that we are trying to achieve through the Bill.
