From the Government’s point of view, this is a transitional supply regime, but even with all these points, we fundamentally disagree with the approach that is being taken here. We feel firmly that subsidies should not continue beyond 2027 and that the money that is freed should be spent on renewable generation and long-term energy storage capacity so that we can provide the security of supply that the Government need. We want to see our contracts for difference used to benefit renewable energy generation to continue to reduce the UK’s dependency on fossil fuels. Investment in renewable energy is the only way, as the Government well know, to cut energy bills, lower our emissions and meet our energy security. Our manifesto is clear that we would ensure that 90% of the UK’s electricity is generated from renewables by 2030.
