The only reason I am not in poverty is because I was such a pain in the rear that I got arrested every year between the ages of 10 and 16. I learned to read and write in a boys’ prison. I then went into a young offender institution, where they said to me, “What you want to do in your spare time?” I said, “I want to draw, I want to paint and I want to read books”. I was given a route out of poverty, which was education. Until we buy into the idea of having targets, we will be drifting. To be repetitious before I sit down, your Lordships will remember week that last I referred to Napoleon.
