The UK Chamber of Shipping estimates that higher transport costs will increase the price of everyday items such as fuel, food, essential goods, construction materials and retail products, all of which heavily rely on the NI-GB ferry supply chain. It made the point that the Government’s 50% surrender reduction for NI-GB routes does not level the playing field. Ultimately, businesses in Great Britain will not be faced with the same maritime transportation costs—it is not an even playing field. That is totally unfair. The Government seem intent on ignoring the fact that Northern Ireland is shackled by the debilitating effects of the Windsor Framework and its chokehold on our economy.
