Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) (Extension to Maritime Activities) Order 2026Contribution
The other thing I draw to the House’s attention is the environmental side of things. When the noble Baroness, Lady Bennett, was listening to the noble Earl, Lord Russell, her head was nearly nodding off her shoulders. In the Government’s contribution at the weekend there was no mention of the environment. The only thing that was mentioned was the negotiations with the EU. The environment did not even come into it. On that, I have to say that unless we go back to sailing ships, there is nothing on the horizon that will be available as an alternative fuel. In Belfast’s case, they are talking about 2040 before it would even have a facility to charge an electrically powered vessel. There is nothing on the scene in the short term. I understand this and I think colleagues on the Lib Dem Benches do because of the Scottish dimension.
