In fact, this Government have spent £3.6 billion on lifting the two-child benefit cap, designed to give more money to those who do not work; they are planning to spend £3.4 billion for the privilege of handing over the Chagos islands to Mauritius, though we can yet hope this so-called deal may be cancelled; and they are spending £1 billion on yet more failed energy policies, which will drive up costs for consumers. Did the Government really need to punish farmers to the tune of £300 million, or have they instead decided to carry out a cynical tax raid on the people who feed us in order to fund a series of ideological hobby horses? It is not as if this was an emergency tax hike to keep the lights on. In fact, the Government’s plans for more renewable energy could very well leave us facing blackouts.
