We have heard a little about Gibraltar today in the context of gambling taxation. It was mentioned by my hon. Friends the Members for Halesowen (Alex Ballinger) and for Stoke-on-Trent Central (Gareth Snell) in connection with new clause 9. The Minister knows how strongly I feel about tax avoidance and evasion involving the United Kingdom’s overseas territories. The UK has long been regarded as a global leader in corporate transparency. In 2016 it became the first G20 country to establish a public register of company ownership—which now includes Gibraltar, on whose economy there has not, in fact, been a noticeable impact.
