Against this backdrop, the Government distribute a significant amount in tax reliefs—£204 billion in 2022-23 alone. They can be important mechanisms to promote innovation and growth, but the 107 non-structural reliefs that we have ended up with have received relatively little scrutiny. I have previously mentioned that in the House, and in some cases the reliefs have not even been properly costed by HMRC. I would welcome any comments from the Minister on that point.
