Furthermore, restricting membership to nominations from trade unions and employer associations removes flexibility and narrows the body’s perspective. While employer representatives play an important role, handing the unions such a dominant role in selecting members and defining the agenda risks skewing the balance and closing off other important voices in the sector. As several of my colleagues have pointed out, this is particularly concerning given the practical realities of social care, where the workforce is diverse and multifaceted and not all workers are union members.
