Do the Government truly believe that that is an exploitive act? Of course not—it is a routine practical adjustment, and one that any modern business might need to make for technical or operational reasons. Moreover, as currently drafted, the Bill could significantly constrain employers from responding to the everyday realities of business. The British Chambers of Commerce has warned that these proposals may hinder its members’ ability to innovate, grow and respond to internal pressures, or seize new opportunities that ultimately benefit both the business and its workforce.
