Renters’ Rights Bill

Contribution

This risk is significantly aggravated by the proposed subsequent 12-month ban on reletting in the Bill. If a sale falls through, through no fault of the shared owner, they cannot relet the flat for another 12 months. That would put their property at risk of repossession due to their inability to pay for an empty property, with arrears building up. Again, shared owners need to be exempted from this provision, and Amendment 143 addresses the issue of what happens when a sale falls through.
