I know that my noble friend Lady Whitaker may well also speak on the amendments on the important issue of the lack of permitted sites. Before she does, I will say that the Government agree that planning appropriately for the housing and accommodation needs of diverse communities is essential. Planning policy is clear that local authorities should assess the need for Traveller sites. This includes a responsibility to set pitch and plot targets for Traveller sites and provide five years-worth of sites against targets.
