Debate

Mental Health Bill [HL]

Contribution

My Lords, I join other noble Lords in expressing my full support for Amendment 51 in the name of the noble Lord, Lord Meston. A very compelling case was put by forward by him and the noble and learned Baroness, Lady Butler-Sloss. I also thank the Minister very warmly for her Amendment 46 and her helpful explanation of what it is likely to entail regarding the process that will flow from it. It is reassuring to know that our Committee debates on age-appropriate treatment for children and young people have been seriously considered by the Minister. I put on record my appreciation of the advanced notice she gave me of her intention to meet noble Lords’ concerns in this constructive way. I hope, nevertheless, that she will not mind me posing a number of questions prompted by the government amendment and my Amendment 58, which has been grouped with it.
