Speaking in the House of Lords on 26 March 2025

Debate

Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2025

Contribution

Again, this question was asked but, despite the £650 million spent on the Trader Support Service and others, people just cannot get the answers. They are told to go from one department to another and to seek legal advice. It all costs money—public and private money. Is there the possibility of people being visited in their own homes, or their offices—remember that this is about office equipment as well—and asked to prove that a range of items complies with EU legislation? If that is regarded as somewhat fanciful—“Oh, come on, this wouldn’t happen”—what is the point of the regulations?
