Speaking in the House of Lords on 26 March 2025
Debate
Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2025Contribution
The Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee looked at the matter, as has been said, in its 20th report, published on 20 March. It suggested that, in order to publicise future changes, if the Government do proceed down this slide, there should be a parliamentary Statement made to both Houses. The Minister has made pledges in relation to Explanatory Memorandums: will he give a pledge tonight that there will be, as the committee recommended, a parliamentary Statement made in both Houses when changes are made, since we will not have a chance even to debate the matter and there will be no further legislation, because we have dynamic alignment? Again, this is despite the talk of some people who told us that after Safeguarding the Union and all, we had nothing to worry about and that we should keep quiet.
