Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2025Contribution
It is quite wrong to say that the business community is not overexercised about all this. Why do you say that when, in fact, we are getting different messages from that very community? Back at the time of the Jubilee, I thought that it would be a nice thing to buy a tree and plant it. I got on to one of the suppliers in GB, who asked “Where are you phoning from?” I said, “I’m phoning from the United Kingdom”. “Oh yes, but what part?” I said, “Northern Ireland”. “Oh, no, sorry, we can’t supply Northern Ireland. First of all, we daren’t do it, because some of the roots might have a bit of soil on them and that would be a dreadful thing. Secondly, we can’t do it because it would not be profitable to do it. There is too much red tape and too many forms to fill in”.
