Before I come to a close, let me address the point made by the hon. Member for Leeds South West and Morley (Mark Sewards). He said how all of this money raised from business rates exemptions and VAT on private schools would help fund the state sector. May I gently point out to him that it was his Education Secretary, who, before Christmas, wrote to the School Teachers’ Review Body essentially to say that teachers should be given a pay rise that is higher than the extra funding that our state schools will receive in the coming financial year—and that has been confirmed by data released by the Education Department this week.
