Speaking in the House of Lords on 18 March 2025

Debate

Non-Domestic Rating (Multipliers and Private Schools) Bill

Contribution

My Lords, I apologise to the House, and particularly to the Minister, for jumping the gun with my closing remarks. It is fair to say that, of the three points that I raised —the principle of taxing education, the differential treatment of charities and the impact of the Bill— I did not hear the first two addressed directly, and on the third I think that the Minister and I have to agree to differ. With that, I am afraid that I have to tell the Minister that I still wish to test the opinion of the House.
