House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) BillContribution
On 4 December 2024, I outlined that it would be best, and perhaps wise—for victims, for the clergy and for the institution—for the Church of England to have a judge-led type of inquiry into a whole raft of issues, but this has not happened. That might have given your Lordships’ House insight into the integrity or otherwise of the process of the CNC appointment of the last Bishop of Liverpool. It is regrettable that no such independent inquiry was undertaken and regrettable to have to raise this matter as an area where the Church of England needs once again to submit, at the very least, to independent oversight of yet another safeguarding issue.
