The Minister will almost certainly fall back on the Government’s line that all this will be taken into account in contract negotiations with GPs, dentists and so on. That might sound very reasonable in the Treasury’s ivory tower, but it does not recognise the reality that thousands of small GP and dentistry practices are at this very minute working out which staff they can cut or which hours they can reduce. As night follows day, this will impact the service provision in these critical parts of our healthcare system.
