Another example from Peterborough are the Newborough farmlands, which were established for veterans coming back from the Second World War to farm the land and grow their own food—a laudable aim supported by everyone. Those 1,218 acres to the north-east of Peterborough, in my former constituency, with an estimated value of £9 million, will probably be sold by the city council because of its parlous financial situation.
